This cocktail here is basically a Genever swizzle and it’s bloody amazing. It’s sour, strong and super refreshing.
A lot of people say that Ernest Hemingway was obsessed with death. It makes sense when you look at some of the names of his favourite cocktails. A Death in the Afternoon is a cocktail he created which combines absinthe with champagne (which I need to make ASAP btw).
Here’s how to make a Death in the Gulf Stream at home.
Ingredients
- 60 ml Old Genever (gin is a great substitute)
- 30 ml lime juice
- 15 ml sugar syrup (2 parts sugar, 1 part water)
- 4 dashes Angostura Bitters
- 1 limes worth of grated zest
- Lime peel or wedge to garnish
Method
Shake all ingredients over ice. Strain into a tall glass full of crushed ice and churn a bit to dilute the drink a little more. Top with some more crushed ice and garnish with a lime peel or wedge.
